Government approves extension of Atal Innovation Mission till 2023
The Government of India has decided to extend the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), till March 2023. This decision was taken by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 8 April 2022.
The AIM shall work on its intended target of creating an innovation culture and entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country. This will be done by AIM via its various programs.
The intended targets that will be achieved by AIM are:
Establishing 10000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs),
Establishing 101 Atal Incubation Centers (AICs),
Establishing 50 Atal Community Innovation Centers (ACICs) and
Supporting 200 startups via the Atal New India Challenges.
Atal Innovation Mission
The Mission was set up under the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog in 2006. The objectives of the AIM are to create and promote an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship across the country.
Atal Tinkering Lab
Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) program has been started in schools with a goal to foster curiosity and innovation in young minds, between grade 6th to 12th across the country.
Atal Incubation Centers
Atal Incubation Centers (AICs) have been set up at universities. Institutions and companies. These Centers aim to foster and support world class innovation, dynamic entrepreneurs who want to build scalable and sustainable enterprises.
Atal Community Innovation Centers
To promote the benefits of technology led innovation to the unserved/underserved regions of India including Tier 2, Tier 3 cities, aspirational districts, tribal, hilly and coastal areas, AIM is setting up Atal Community Innovation Centers.
Atal New India Challenges.
To create product and service innovations having national socio-economic impact, over 24 Atal New India Challenges in partnership with five different ministries and departments of the central government have been launched by AIM.
